Phenyl-Alanine (phenylalanine) is an essential amino acid, which means that the human body cannot create it from other substances but it has to be ingested.
In nature Phenyl-alanine exists in two forms:
- D-Phenylalanine and
- L-phenylalanine.
Source Naturals contains a combination of both forms (DL-phenylalanine or DLPA), as this combination has been shown as the most effective in studies.
Phenyl-alanine in such form can also found in protein-rich foods. In the human metabolism, several substances are formed from Phenylalanine, including the amino acid tyrosine, L-DOPA, nevrtrasmitor dopamine and the hormones/neurotrasmitors epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine (noradrenaline).
Not recommended for individuals with Phenylketonuria. Phenylketonuria is an innate, genetic defect in which the body can not properly metabolize phenylalanine.

Usage: Take 1 to 3 tablets per day.
